Could you describe your inspirations behind the Infinity Collection?
The inspiration behind the Infinity Collection is deeply rooted in my search for the places, spaces or pieces that embody comfort, beauty and presence. For this collection, I thought about how I want to feel when I land into a space. What puts me in the frame of mind to connect with others, be creative and feel free. This moved me to look at shapes and textures in nature as inspiration because nature is where I feel most at home.
Where does your process begin when designing a furniture collection?
For me, design is inspired by nature. The shapes, textures and feelings that are elicited.
Do you have an early design memory that still informs your process?
My early memories of how design made me feel [date back to] when I was in elementary school in Denver, CO and very vividly inform my design process and remind me of the profound impact thoughtful design can have on individuals and communities. Our classrooms did not have traditional walls, they had moveable bookshelves. This innovative design allowed for shared space that fostered a sense of connection among students in different classes.
The same school had a conversation pit where an entire grade could come together for intimate or serious conversations. I became aware how this design encouraged a shift in behavior and how students intuitively became quiet and focused during conversations and were willing to be more vulnerable, more truthful. These early experiences lead me to understand the importance of design in not just beauty but creating community.
How long has the Infinity Collection been in the works?
I’ve been thinking about an upholstered furniture collection for years. About three years ago, I decided to design and produce a set of chairs for our office reception area. This gave my vision clarity and specificity and from there I saw the possibility of a collection. When Jamie said “yes” I was so excited to make a dream come true.
Do you have a personal favorite piece from the collection?
My favorite is the swivel chair with arms! It’s wide enough to sit in any position and the arms feels cozy and relaxed. This is the perfect chair for a hotel lounge, a living room, or a reception area!
Did you encounter any unexpected obstacles or challenges during the design process?
Time. When you are crafting for roll out it’s different than a custom one-off piece.
How do you hope the Infinity Collection will be received?
I hope the Infinity Collection is experienced as easeful classic lounge pieces that bring presence and warmth to both spaces and the people sitting in them. That they invite gathering and opportunity for connection.
Do you have a dream design project?
My dream design project is a boutique wellness hotel and spa. As an architect, designer and certified yoga instructor I am passionate about wellness. Designing a boutique wellness hotel and spa would allow for a holistic integration of my diverse expertise.
Do you have a favorite hotel?
I love so many hotels but right now, the Proper Santa Monica is my home away from home on the west coast. The spaces there evoke a sense of comfort and elegance and express many textures from nature. There is a balance there that just feels good.
Do you have a favorite vacation spot?
I don't really have a favorite spot. I love to travel. Different types of experiences bring richness to my understanding of the world and design. I enjoy places in nature and urban travel.
Which interior designers currently inspire you?
Clodagh always inspires me. She is the OG when it comes to hospitality design, design for well-being, and product development. Her emphasis on natural materials, attention to lighting and holistic design aligns with my own passion for creating spaces that prioritize wellness. I am also inspired by Kelly Wearstler’s talent for crafting an easeful layered look with a balance of contemporary style and timeless appeal.
